There are wine regions… and then there is Bordeaux.

A region that has defined fine wine for centuries. Gravel soils, classified growths, names that carry weight in every serious cellar on earth. It is the benchmark. The reference point. The arena where legacy is made and defended.

And within that arena sits Château Smith Haut Lafitte.

Ranked #5 winery in the world by The World’s Best Vineyards, this is not just a prestigious estate, it is one of the most complete, immersive wine domaines anywhere. A place where architecture, land, craft, and hospitality converge at the highest level.

This is a château that has welcomed heads of state, including King Charles III, and yet still feels deeply connected to the earth beneath it. Vines stretch in every direction. Forest edges frame the property. Gravel crunches underfoot as you move through a landscape that feels both refined and quietly wild.

For one night, we take our place within it.

The Producer
At the heart of Château Smith Haut Lafitte is a relentless pursuit of quality.

Owned and restored by the Cathiard family, the estate has become a global reference point not just for its wines, but for its philosophy. Everything here is done with intent. Organic and biodynamic practices. On-site cooperage crafting barrels by hand. Precision at every stage from vineyard to cellar.

The terroir is classic Graves. Deep Günzian gravel soils that retain heat and drain perfectly, forcing the vines to work, to struggle, to produce fruit with structure and depth. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc for the reds. Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for the whites. All handled with a level of care that shows in every glass.

The Chef: Guillaume Germanaz
A chef who understands restraint. Guillaume Germanaz works with a light touch. Seasonal produce, clean flavours, and a style that lets ingredients speak without unnecessary complication.

For this dinner, the menu is built specifically around the wines of Smith Haut Lafitte. Not competing with them, but supporting them. Expect a progression that moves with the vineyard, with the time of year, and with the setting itself.

The Table
A single, long table set within the estate among the vines.

No separation. No hierarchy. Just one line of guests running through the landscape, bringing together people from different places for a shared moment around food and wine.

As the evening unfolds, the château reveals itself in layers. Light fading across the vines. Glasses catching the last of it. Conversations building as the table settles into its rhythm.
